Programme
Arvo PÄRT | Swansong
PROKOFIEV | Violin Concerto no. 2
PROKOFIEV | Symphony no. 4
Grammy Award-winning conductor Paavo Järvi leads a programme that celebrates simplicity. It begins with Swansong, which was composed by Järvi’s compatriot, the Estonian minimalist composer Arvo Pärt. Bomsori Kim, a multiple prize-winner of prestigious international competitions including ARD, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Wieniawski and Queen Elisabeth, plays Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto. This piece was written in a “new form of simplicity”, reflecting the composer’s desire for “clear and simple” music, a theme that can also be heard in his earlier Fourth Symphony.
